Performance
The Samsung YP-K5 has really good sound quality. The player, just like the previous Samsung that we tested, keeps the same quality. The YP-K5 comes bundled with earplugs and has its own in-built speakers. The player doesn't come close to the quality of sound from the iRivers or the Walkman phones, but does well to keep up with them. The player produces the highs, mids, and the lows pretty well. But at times with the Bass Boost preset selected, the lows get a bit cracky not only in the speakers but when being used with the earphones as well.
The Samsung YP-K5 bundled earphones may look really weird; there's no changing that. They are quite uncomfortable to wear as well; they cause irritation not only because of the shape but probably also because of the psychological aspect that earphone has to go in your ear. But then these earphones produce really good music and at that instant you might just be able to neglect their weirdness. These earphones are probably built on the success of the earplugs of the Sony Ericsson earplugs bundled with their Walkman branded phones. All highs and lows are taken care off well, but just for its weirdness will not appeal to all.
Conclusion
The Samsung YP-K5 retails for around Rs. 14,000; but off the street, it will cost you around 13K. The player is a wee bit expensive for its capacity of just 2 GB. But given the provision of great speaker for only those show offs and a really good sound package the player could be worth the buy for those who can manage the extra dough.
